That is what not doing art is, if it is because you are not “feeling it.”
I would liken that to the door to a stove: You want to heat things up? Open the door; you want to cool it all down? Close the door.
This is along the lines of, “Whatever you decide, whether you can or you can’t, that is true.”
(As in this newly developing editorial style with these parenthetical paragraphs, I, by the way, never liked that saying. Sometimes one cannot factually do the things one thinks one can. This is a corollary to “There are no absolutes.” I cannot, for example, climb a four thousand foot sheer rock wall in Yosemite. I would literally die if I tried to do that. Saying, “I can do that!” is elemental stupid. But I can have many millions of dollars without ever even having had to have worked much at all to get them. So I am not being a grump about this. There is magic. Magic is real. But so is time.)
You can certainly control your own feelings by opening or closing that furnace door. Look. Listen. Breathe. What do you taste? Can you feel the weight of the planet dipping as it flies through space?
Like that.
